Fishing village with a castle

Wednesday, 7-Sept. What do you think of when you hear “French Mediterranean coast”?
Luxury. Prestige. Status. Cannes, St. Tropez, Nice, and Monte Carlo (really in Monaco, but close). These coastal cities are not far from the Provence region

Yeah…no, we didn’t go there. We went to Cassis. A fishing village with a castle overlooking the harbor.

I think it was worth the drive. Waterfront eateries and shops.

On a warm day, no amount of fancy clothes, jewelry, and bags have as much value as an ice cream shop. Cassis is rich in those, with one on every block!

The big thing in Cassis is hiking the high, dry creek beds known as calenques. Sounds like a great way to build up a thirst and an appetite while enjoying nature. Well, if the hikers are going to the same stop as us, are we really that different?

Andrea requested we get to the Mediterranean so she could experience that fabled sea. Fortunately, Cassis also has a beach. A pebble beach.

No one brought swim clothes, but they were in sandals to officially have skin in the water.

Click here to see the waves roll in and hear them crash.

Leaving the beach, we found the best, pocket-sized park with a pond—at least Mabel thought so.
