“Barceloni” is a state of mind

Sunday, 4-Sept. Do you remember the person who came back from a semester abroad? How they just couldn’t shut up about how their eyes are opened to the larger world? Good grief. They are so annoying.

Yeah. Can’t stand them.

Now, as for myself, though I don’t know Catalan from Croatian, I now consider myself Barceloni. See, my friends, it is not about birth or a matter of time one has lived in Barcelona.

It is a state of mind. It is embracing the unconventional and unexpected. It is swimming in the gaps between black and white, up and down, reality and fantasy. Allow me to explain.

My favorite buildings? Gaudí designed. They have curves like my beautiful wife.

In fact, once here, you will understand why the first floor doesn’t match street level. The third floor is supposed to be number one, you heathen!

Furthermore, our elevators are not super-sized, biggie-sized, like your American combo meals  They are a discreet single portion of ascension.

I mean, why be in such a glutinous hurry? Here, our washing machines are like the espresso of home appliances. Small and tidy.

Plus, our washing cycles allow for an aperitif, a walk to enjoy tapas with friends, bathing your Yorkie, and a nap. Really, how do you Americans do laundry that take less than three hours?

Despite not knowing that the Boqueria Mercado is closed on los domingos, I mean, uh, how do say…yes, Sundays. I still feel the vibrant energy of the city’s best market outside locked gates and closed stalls.

Like the seasonal rhythm that affects all living things, us Barceloni know when change comes.
